LAKE WALES – Two teachers in the Lake Wales Charter Schools system are earning recognition for their creativity.
Brannan Lawson, the visual arts teacher at Hillcrest Elementary, recently earned an online “awards badge” for her teaching blog “elementaryartist” which can be viewed at http://elementaryartist.blogspot.com/ . The focus of Lawson’s blog is to explain to other teachers how she implements creative ideas into her elementary arts classroom. The award came from an online group – www.teachersalaryinfo.com – that strives to recognize the contributions of teachers.
Cathy Montero, the chorus teacher for Hillcrest Elementary, Bok Academy and Lake Wales High, has been invited to bring student groups to perform at the Internet Crimes Against Children Statewide Conference on Wednesday (Dec. 1) in Orlando. The ICAC conference will be attended by local state and federal law enforcement officers, forensic examiners and prosecutors.
Montero also will direct the Hillcrest “Encore” show choir next week when the group performs at the Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence Conference at the Disney Contemporary Hotel. Encore is part of the featured entertainment during the conference banquet.
