BABSON PARK — Dale R. Fair Babson Park Elementary parents are “in-the-know” about school procedures and expectations for their children after attending “Parent Workshop” nights this month.
“I enjoy attending parent nights because they give me a glimpse into what my children’s busy school days are like,” said parent Christina Updike. “I also gain a better appreciation for the hard work that their teachers do throughout the year.” Updike has two children attending the school.
Workshops are divided by grade levels and scheduled on different nights. Families with more than one child can attend as many sessions as they need to.
“Parent night gives me a better understanding of what is taught in the classroom so that I can assist my children at home. We are fortunate to be able to ask questions regarding homework and learn what to expect as the school year progresses,” said Leanne Thrift, who has been attending for the past four years.
Ryan and Erin Floyd attended their first Parent Workshop this year. Their son is enrolled in the Pre-Kindergarten program.
“I was impressed with the school’s academic expectations,” said Erin Floyd. “They are covering letter recognition and sounds with 3- and 4-year-olds. These children will be prepared for kindergarten!”
Principal Kenneth Henson said he enjoys Parent Night because he can stay connected with families.
“It’s always a great feeling to see our parents sitting in their child’s seat and learning just like the students do each day. When a parent shows up for the workshop, it sends a clear message to their child: My parents care about my education!” he said.
Overall, Babson Park Elementary had a 70 percent participation rate, meaning that 70 percent of students had at least one parent attend the workshop. Most students were represented by more than one parent.
