Babson Park hosts Volunteer Orientation

Oct 19th, 2011

BABSON PARK – Dale R. Fair Babson Park Elementary hosted its annual Volunteer, Business Partner and Mentor Orientation recently (Oct. 6) in the school Media Center.

Assistant Principal Elizabeth Tyler explained the process to become a school volunteer. Any parent who wants to serve as a homeroom parent, assist in the classroom or attend a field trip must undergo a background check and be approved before volunteering in the school.  She also reviewed other activities where volunteers are needed, such as Super Gnat and Red Ribbon Week activities, and serving as a Mentor to a student.

Tyler talked about how to become a Business Partner and the recognitions as a Business Partner. She also explained the importance of tracking all volunteer hours.

“Keeping track of these hours is important to our school because Volunteers are one of the categories for Babson Park Elementary to be rated a 5 Star School,” she said.

State of Florida started the 5 Star School Award 15 years ago. The five categories are Community and Business Partners, Family Involvement, Volunteers, Students Community Service and School Advisory Council. DRF Babson Park Elementary has been awarded the prestigious 5 Star School Award for 14 consecutive years. The school did not apply the first year the award was offered.
