Babson Park students turn up heat in Science Fair

May 19th, 2010

LAKE WALES – Students at Dale R. Fair Babson Park Elementary seem to be “red hot” for science this year.

Many of the school’s winning Science Fair projects had something to do with heat and how it impacts various kinds of objects or actions.

AnnMarie Tyler, fourth grade, earned first place for her softball-themed project entitled “Hit It Hot!” She also earned a Superior Award at the County Science Fair.

Samuel Jackson, fourth grade, earned second place with his salt and ice project entitled “Does Salt Water Affect the Melting of Ice.” He received an Excellent Award for the project at the County Science Fair.

Sadie Marston, fourth grade, placed third with her project comparing the power of different types of salt, which was entitled “Marvelous Melting.” She received an Excellent Award for the project at the County Science Fair.

Isabel Wadsworth, fifth grade, earned first place with her water purification project entitled “Don’t Drink That Water!” She also earned a Superior Award at the County Science Fair.

Fisher Cain, fifth grade, placed second with his project entitled “Microwave vs. Stovetop Popcorn.” He received an Excellent Award for the project at the County Science Fair.

Jordan Cain, fifth grade, placed third with his rocket project entitled “How Does a Rocket’s
Surface Finish Affect the Flight Time?”

Seraldo Dedier, fifth grade, presented his project about the density of wood, entitled “Nailed It!” at the County Science Fair and received an Excellent Award.

Every student at Babson Park participates in some way in the Annual Science Fair, which is held in late April. Kindergarten and first grade students work on class projects. Second and third grade students work on small-group projects. Fourth and fifth grade students create individual projects, which are judged for awards and the chance to compete in the county-wide Elementary Science Fair.
