LAKE WALES – Some Bok Academy reading students are getting extra help preparing for this year’s FCAT reading assessment – thanks to the JROTC program at Lake Wales High School.

Since January, JROTC cadets have visited Bok Academy every Thursday to work with their seventh and eighth grade “partners” on FCAT reading strategies.

“It is a wonderful benefit for our students. The cadets also mentor the students by sharing about their own high school experiences and talking about JROTC,” said Chandra Johnson, who teaches the two single-gender classes of boys who are participating.
