Cadets shine at Military Ball

Feb 15th, 2012

LAKE WALES – Cadets from Lake Wales High’s JROTC class got dressed up and stepped out on the town Friday (Feb. 10) for the Annual Military Ball.

The dinner and dance, which was held at the Lake Mirror Center in Lakeland, is a yearly event for JROTC cadets from high schools throughout Polk County. JROTC units representing all four service branches attended.

“It was better than the Prom or Homecoming,” according to several cadets.  Students enjoyed dinner and ice cream, before turning their attention to an evening of dancing. Senior Instructors and Assistant Instructors from Polk County high schools also attended the event and served as chaperones.

“These cadets are fine young men and women. It’s good to see young people enjoy themselves and have a good time,” said Capt. Charles Simpson, Senior Army Instructor at LWHS.

“We want these young people to be better citizens, and by what I saw at the Military Ball, we are accomplishing that task,” said Simpson. “These students are outstanding.”
