LAKE WALES – Polk Avenue Cardinals celebrated several success stories this morning (Aug. 23) at the first school-wide Friday Forum of the new year.
Current fifth graders presented a $1,500 check to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. They raised the money last year as fourth graders, when they created a “leadership service project” to make and sell bracelets, headbands and hair scrunchies. They were inspired by Kid President, a child about their age who has a disease called Osteogenesis Imperfecta. Kid President (www.kidpresident.com) makes inspiring videos to encourage children and adults to “make their world more awesome.”
Fifth grader Madison Klomp was recognized for earning a perfect score on last spring’s FCAT reading exam, and fifth grader Madison Gosselin was recognized for a perfect score on the FCAT math exam.
Principal Gail Quam and Assistant Principal Metta O’Bryant also recognized students who earned all As last year.
