LAKE WALES – Warner University is offering a free NASA Moon Rock and Meteorite Certification Workshop to local teachers on Thursday, Nov. 8.
The class is set for 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8 in the Pontius Learning Center, Room 236, on the Warner University campus.
The workshop will introduce teachers to NASA resources, and provide workshop participants with official certification for requesting moon rock and meteorite samples for their classrooms or school. Teachers also will receive additional resources about NASA and earth-space science.
Moon rocks and meteorite samples are considered “national treasures” and are irreplaceable. Teachers may only request the NASA samples after they have been certified in the proper handling, security and return shipment of the samples. Each workshop participant will be certified by the NASA Training Specialist, and each participant’s name and contact information will be recorded in the NASA database.
There are 60 seats available for the class, so registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Teachers may reserve their spot by emailing Dr. Judy Shoemaker (judy.shoemaker@warner.edu) before Oct. 31.
