JHW students ‘Soaring in the Arts’

LAKE WALES – Janie Howard Wilson Elementary musical and visual arts students shared their talents Tuesday (May 14) in a year-end “Soaring in the Arts” performance and exhibition for their school community. Music teacher Micky Caban and art teacher Tiffany Weaver coordinated the event.

Janie Howard Wilson teachers (photo #2) joined Chorus students to perform a special rendition of Bob Dylan’s “Forever Young,” which they dedicated to third grade teacher Dee O’Hern. O’Hern is retiring in June after 25 years at Janie Howard Wilson and a 30-year career in education.

More than 400 student-artists (photo #3) participated in a “gallery display” in the school cafeteria, which was organized by art teacher Tiffany Weaver. The display included papier-mache hot air balloons to tie into the “Soaring in the Arts” theme.
