Emily Branscome qualified for “AP Scholar with Honor Award” by earning an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more exams.
Eight students qualified for the “AP Scholar Award” by completing three or more exams with scores of 3 or higher. The AP Scholars are: Jacquia Atmore, Nayoung Jo, Megan Lampert, Vanica Marc, Susannah Rawlings, Julie Smith, Marshall Smith and Marci Violet.
Vanica Marc and YingYing Duan were 11th graders during the 2009-2010 school year. They have more opportunities during their senior year of high school to complete college-level work and possibly earn additional recognition from the AP Scholar program.
According to The College Board’s AP Program, only 18 percent of AP students scored high enough on AP exams to earn AP Scholar Awards. More than 1.8 million students worldwide participate in the Advanced Placement Program.
“We are very proud of these students,” said Principal Clark Berry. “AP classes are very demanding, and these students have demonstrated a real commitment to their education.”
The AP Program provides students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school. Students can earn college credit, advanced placement in college, or both, for successful performance on AP exams.
This year, LWHS is offering AP classes in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Language, Literature, Government, Microeconomics, Psychology, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Statistics and Spanish Language.
