Musicians wow Lake Ashton audience

Nov 12th, 2012

LAKE WALES –Janie Howard Wilson Elementary musicians wowed an appreciative audience at Lake Ashton last week (Nov. 5) with a patriotic concert.

The Silver Streak Chorus and World Drumming Ensemble opened with the National Anthem and followed with songs that gave tribute to veterans.

“Our theme this year is ‘Take the stage. Leave a legacy.’ And I’m really trying to focus on performing songs that cause the students to think and live what they sing,” said teacher Mirka Caban. “The song that touched students the most was the Armed Forces Medley.”

Students watched veterans stand as their military Alma Mater was sung. Audience members cheered and sang along with pride.

The performance also was a chance to showcase instruments purchased with a grant funded by the Lake Ashton RVers.
