LAKE WALES – About 25 Hillcrest Elementary parents spent some serious time at school recently, when they shadowed their children during a fifth grade reading class.
Fifth grade teachers Jaime Winfree and Tammy Sheppard invited parents to join their students during a typical reading block, so they could experience first-hand what students are learning and doing as teachers use Culyer Reading Strategies to boost student achievement.
“Because the requirements of this method of teaching are so different from what was previously expected of students, we wanted the parents to be part of a reading block,” said Sheppard. “We had a nice turnout of parents, who came to be part of this day.”
