LAKE WALES – Fifth grade student Angelicia Jones dreams of being a high-fashion model, and now she can tell people that she has walked the runway in a real fashion show.
Because of Angelicia’s interest in modeling, teachers at Polk Avenue Elementary helped organize the school’s first-ever Fashion Show, which was a fundraiser for Haiti Relief and local needs.
More than 20 Polk Avenue Elementary students walked the runway April 24 as part of the fashion show, which had an audience of more than 100 people. Belk at Posner Park provided the spring fashions and worked with the Polk Avenue models.
Tickets for the event were $5, but every buyer received a $5 coupon to use toward a Belk purchase May 1 during Belk’s Charity Sale Event.
“The idea came about because of Angelicia, whose dream is to be a fashion model. We wanted to give her that experience,” said teacher Maria Jimenez, one of the staff members who helped organize the event.
