LAKE WALES – Polk Avenue Elementary teachers Susan Kistner and Melissa Kelly won a $1,000 grant from the Polk Education Foundation this week for their innovative “Off the Grid with Solar Energy” program.  The multi-grade, math and science program teaches students about the positive and harmful effects of the sun.

They received $1,000, which included $200 as a gift and $800 for school supplies. Kelly and Kistner will design and staff a booth at the Nov. 16 IDEA Expo, where other teachers and schools will have a chance to choose ideas to implement.
