Pro Arte Quartet offers master class

Feb 21st, 2012

LAKE WALES – Bok Academy and Lake Wales High musicians got a special treat today (Feb. 21) when they participated in a Master Class with three members of the Pro Arte Quartet from the University of Wisconsin. Pictured warming up before the class (l-r) are David Perry, violin; Sally Chisholm, viola; and Parry Karp, cello.

This is the fourth year that Bok students have benefited from a Master Class, thanks to the generosity of a local donor, according to Bok Principal Damien Moses. This year, the hour-long performance and question-and-answer session was held at Lake Wales High so more students could benefit.

The Pro Arte Quartet is celebrating its 100th year. The group was founded in 1911-1912 by students at the Brussels Conservatory. In 1940, the group was touring the United States when World War II broke out, and the University of Wisconsin offered the quartet a permanent home. Members both perform and serve as faculty members at UW-Madison.
