LAKE WALES – Lake Wales High’s Special Olympics team left the Polk County games March 15 weighed down with first and second place ribbons and medals.
“Our athletes demonstrated tremendous effort during the county games,” said teacher and coach Jane Jackson. “It was a wonderful day.”
Sprinters Reynaldo Cadena, Chris Leafdale, Erin Spear and Travis Lightsey took first place in the 4×100 Relay, with a time of 58.50 seconds.
Other first place recognitions went to: Reynaldo Cadena (400m, 200m); Jonathan Martinez (100m); Brendan Gravel (100m); Chris Leafdale (100m); Travis Lightsey (100m); Erin Spear (100m); Chris Leafdale (shot put).
Second place recognitions went to: Erin Spear (200m); Joseph Lunsford (100m); James Vancamp (100m).
On Saturday (March 23), the LWHS athletes will attend area Special Olympics games at USF in Tampa.

LAKELAND – The crowd went wild Tuesday (May 21) when third grader Carlos Salgado (pictured) threw out the first pitch at the Lakeland Flying Tigers baseball game against the Fort Myers Miracles.
LAKE WALES – Lake Wales High’s Special Olympic track and field relay team qualified and participated in the State Summer Games May 17-18 at ESPN Wide World of Sports.
